Cloud, Sydney Hilton Hotel Lobby
Cloud was commissioned for the lobby space in the Hilton Hotel, Sydney, which is rather like an internal street cutting through the building. I wanted to create something with a feeling of movement that flowed along the ceiling space. Material manipulation is important to my practice, and part of the challenge was to translate my pleated paper models into something more durable without compromising the forms. The consultancy managing the commission, Urban Arts Projects, also fabricate artworks in-house, and working with their technicians we were able to develop a way of crafting light-weight Palight sheet plasic into curved-pleated forms.
