Painting with light

These photographs were taken using illumination from a stroboscope flashing at a fairly high frequency. Several pieces of plywood were cut and formed into curved shapes; these were moved by hand with sweeping motions in the light of the strobe whilst the camera took an exposure. No predetermined forms were in mind, the results were left to chance. I selected the shots which I considered successful, which can be seen below.
